What a new chain link fence costs in Texas
HomeGuide and Angi put chain link at $12 to $28 a foot installed, four-foot galvanized at the low end and six-foot black coated at the top. That is a standard six-foot fence on flat, clear ground, before tear-out, gates and slope.
What moves your number
Black vinyl coating costs more than bare galvanized. Nine gauge costs more than eleven. A top rail costs a little more than tension wire and keeps the line straight. Privacy slats and every gate add to it.

Which chain link fence you should actually buy
Galvanized
Bare zinc-coated steel, the budget fence. The coating class decides how long it lasts. Class 2 carries nearly twice the zinc of Class 1, and it is the one to pick for a fence you plan to keep.
Black vinyl coated
The same steel with a bonded black coat over the zinc, on fabric, posts and rails alike. The mesh recedes against a hedge or a tree line, and the coat is a second layer against rust. It costs more than bare galvanized, and it is what most homeowners choose once they see the two side by side.
Nine gauge or eleven
Eleven gauge is the light residential fabric. Nine gauge is heavier wire, and it is what goes on a fence a large dog leans on or a ball hits every afternoon. It costs a little more and it is the one to buy on a working fence.
The three things that decide how long your chain link fence lasts
A fence is three things: what holds it up, what carries the load between the posts, and what you see from the street. You choose the last one. We build the first two the same way on every job, which is how twenty thousand fences last year produced not one callback.
Posts set below where Texas clay moves
The crew digs to depth for the height you picked, wet sets the posts in concrete and leaves them to cure. Texas clay moves through a dry summer and a wet spring, and a post set shallow is why a fence leans three years later. Ours do not.
A frame we never lighten to win a quote
Rails carry your fence between the posts. You never see them, and they decide whether the line stays straight. A cheap bid saves its money here first. We do not build a frame lighter than the job needs to make a number look better.
Hardware that never bleeds rust down your new fence
Fasteners, hinges and latches match the material, so nothing streaks. Your gate hardware carries the most weight and the most use, so its size follows the leaf rather than the price.
How your chain link fence will actually look
Chain link does not give you much to look at, and the choices below are about making it disappear or making it work harder. Each one goes on the quote by name.
Black or silver
Black recedes against planting and is the one to pick where the fence backs onto trees. Silver galvanized is the working finish for a side yard or a dog run.
Privacy slats
Vertical slats woven through the mesh close most of the view and turn a fence into a screen for a pool pump or a trash pad. They also catch wind, so the posts go deeper on a slatted fence.
Top rail
A top rail keeps the line dead straight. A tension wire costs less and sags over time. The rail is worth the little it adds.
Height
Four feet holds a dog and is the minimum around a pool. Six feet is the back yard standard. Anything taller is a commercial build with its own posts.
The gate
A walk gate gets its own frame and a fork latch. A double drive gate lets a mower or a trailer through, and it is worth deciding where it goes before the crew sets the posts.
A tree line or a wet corner is a normal chain link job
Chain link follows the ground, so a fence across a slope goes up without stepping. A low wet corner gets a longer post and a deeper footing rather than a different fence. A tree on the line gets a post either side of it and the fabric cut around the trunk, which is how the tree stays. None of that counts as a custom job on our quote.

Common questions about a new chain link fence
How long does the work take?
Most back yards finish the day the crew starts, because the crew counted and loaded every material before the truck left our yard. A long fence, heavy gates or a stubborn tear-out can take it into a second day, and your salesperson gives you the day count before you sign anything.
Do you haul the old fence away?
Yes, all of it. The old panels, the old posts and the concrete they sat in leave with the crew that day. Removal and haul-off are in the one price, never a line added to your bill afterward.
Do I need a permit for a new fence?
A residential fence in Texas rarely needs one. Your city or your HOA can still cap the height or set which side the finished face goes on. We check both before a post goes in the ground, which is one of the reasons the date holds.
What does the warranty cover?
