Who buys this fence, and why

A yard that backs onto a road, a park or a school usually needs this build and no other.
What your money buys
Six feet is the standard height here. Pickets go on one face of the rails, so one side shows the frame and the other shows a flat face of boards. The posts sit in concrete, and the gate posts are the heaviest ones on the job. We measure your line on site before the crew loads a single board, so the run that arrives is the run your yard needs. Rails sit on the inside of the run, which is where they belong on a fence you look at from the house every day.
What to settle before the crew arrives
Decide which side the smooth face points before we build. Most owners point it at the street or at the neighbor. Tell us where you want the gate and how wide it needs to be, because a mower needs more room than a person does. An old fence that sat on the property line is worth mentioning now rather than on the day the crew arrives. Tell us whether the old fence comes out first or the new line goes in beside it, because that changes how the day runs.
What it asks of you once it is up
Cedar and pine both gray out within a year if you leave them bare. Stain or seal the wood every two to three years and the color holds. Wash the line once a year with a garden hose. Keep your sprinkler heads pointed away from the boards, because wet wood at the base is what shortens a fence in this climate. Set properly, a wood privacy fence is something you buy once and then largely leave alone.
