A fiber cement fence is the one you buy after wood has failed you twice. The panels are cement and sand with wood fiber pressed in, so termites cannot eat them and standing water cannot soften them.
Houston sits at 77.2 on the federal decay index, deep in the high band, and a pine post at the bottom of a wet yard shows it. Cement board on a steel frame is the same after a wet summer as before it. It costs more than pine on the day and a great deal less over twenty years, and we have pulled out enough rotted pine to know exactly where it belongs.
The one fiber cement fence we build, and why we build it this way
Pick the style standing in your own yard, with somebody who has built all of them, and let the yard decide. Each one is for a different yard and a different buyer.

Hardie Panel
For Gulf Coast yards that keep losing fences to rot and termites. Cement board panels on a steel or treated frame give you a solid privacy wall. Insects cannot eat it and standing water cannot soften it. See how panel and frame go together.

Price a fence before you call
See what a fence costs before anyone quotes you.
Pick the material, the height and how many feet of fence, and the calculator shows the market range for a fence like yours in Texas. Then a salesperson measures the real one in your yard and the number comes back the same day.
The estimate is free and there is nothing to sign.
What a new fiber cement fence costs in Texas
No cost survey breaks fiber cement fencing out on its own, so here is the bracket it sits in. HomeGuide and Ergeon put a composite fence at $30 to $55 a foot installed, and HomeGuide puts a brick fence at $60 to $240 a foot. Cement board on a steel frame lands between the two, and a measured quote puts it nearer the composite end than the wall. That is a standard six-foot fence on flat, clear ground, before tear-out, gates and slope.
What moves your number
A galvanized steel frame costs more than treated pine and does not move with the clay. Paint is part of the job, so plan on it. Battens and a cap add a little and hide every joint. An eight-foot fence catches real wind, so the posts go deeper and closer together.
Why the Johnson number is the one to get
A salesperson measures the fence line in your yard, so the number is yours and not a guess at it, and it covers the tear-out and the haul-off. A hundred crews put it up on the date we gave you, most of them in a day. One year of craftsmanship on the work, and not one callback on twenty thousand jobs last year.
Financing is available through Synchrony, a third party, if you would rather pay monthly. Ask your salesperson for the terms when the quote comes back. See how financing works.
Which fiber cement fence you should actually buy

Fiber cement panel
Pick it where the fence backs onto a wet corner or a neighbor with a sprinkler that hits it every morning. Termites and rot are off the table, and the panel takes exterior paint in any color. The frame underneath is steel, so the part in the ground is not wood either.

Cedar board on board
Pick it where you want real wood and a lower number on the day. Cedar heartwood resists rot on its own and silvers evenly. It should give you about twenty years on treated posts, and it is the fence most established Houston lots already have.

A masonry wall
Pick it where the fence has to stop sound as well as sight, or where it will outlive the house. It is the most expensive of the three by a distance. A wall needs an engineered footing and, in Houston, a permit at any height, which we file.
The three things that decide how long your fiber cement fence lasts
A fence is three things: what holds it up, what carries the load between the posts, and what you see from the street. You choose the last one. We build the first two the same way on every job, which is how twenty thousand fences last year produced not one callback.
Posts set below where Texas clay moves
The crew digs to depth for the height you picked, wet sets the posts in concrete and leaves them to cure. Texas clay moves through a dry summer and a wet spring, and a post set shallow is why a fence leans three years later. Ours do not.
A frame we never lighten to win a quote
Rails carry your fence between the posts. You never see them, and they decide whether the line stays straight. A cheap bid saves its money here first. We do not build a frame lighter than the job needs to make a number look better.
Hardware that never bleeds rust down your new fence
Fasteners, hinges and latches match the material, so nothing streaks. Your gate hardware carries the most weight and the most use, so its size follows the leaf rather than the price.
How your fiber cement fence will actually look
A fiber cement fence is a flat, modern plane, and the details decide whether it reads as a designed wall or a highway sound barrier. Every one of these is a choice you make in the yard, and none of them changes the quote much.

Paint
The panel comes factory primed and takes exterior paint. A deep color, charcoal or bronze, reads as a designed wall. Bare primer reads as a job half done, so plan on the paint.
Battens and cap
A batten over every panel joint and a flat cap along the top hide the seams and shed water off the top edge. Skip them and the joints show as dark lines after the first rain.
Steel frame or treated wood
The panels hang on a galvanized steel frame or on treated pine. Steel costs more and does not move with the clay, so the panels stay flat. It is the frame to pick for a fence you never want to think about again.
Height
Six feet is the standard. Houston asks for a permit above eight feet and Austin above seven. A taller cement panel catches real wind, so the posts go deeper and closer together.
The gate
The gate is a steel frame with a cement board face, so it matches the fence and does not sag. It hangs on a heavier post than the line posts.
A wet yard is exactly where a fiber cement fence belongs
A low corner that holds water after a storm is where a pine post rots first and where cement board stays the same. The frame goes either side of a drainage swale, so nothing dams the flow. The panels step down a slope one post at a time, with the cap following. The crew moves an irrigation head a foot and leaves a live oak its roots. None of that counts as a custom job on our quote.
One price covers the whole job, tear-out to walk-through
The quote covers the tear-out, the haul-off and the new fence, one number in writing. This is what that means on your property, and none of it lands on you.

Your old fence leaves on our truck, concrete and all
The old panels, rails and pickets come down first. The old posts come out with the concrete still on them, and all of it leaves your property on the truck. Nothing stays buried in your yard and nothing sits at the curb for you to deal with. This is a full replacement, so we take the whole fence, not a section of it.
The crew walks the fence line with you before it drives away
Every gate on your property is swung, squared and latched. The crew picks the debris up off your yard, and it leaves with the truck. Then you walk the finished run with the crew, before anyone drives away, and you say whether it is right.
How it works
A hundred crews, so the date we give you is the date you get
You call, or you send the form
A salesperson picks up when one is free. Otherwise you get a call back, almost always the same day.
You get a rough number on the phone
We price from your address before anyone drives out, so you know early whether we are in your range.
A salesperson measures in your yard
The salesperson measures your fence line in feet. You pick the height, the style and the grade standing where the fence will go.
Your quote comes back the same day
One number, in writing, with the scope written next to it. Nobody stands in your kitchen waiting for a signature.
Work starts in about four days
A hundred crews means one is free when you are. It loads every material at our yard before the truck leaves, so it reaches you able to finish the job.
The crew finishes and you walk it
Most jobs finish the day they start. You walk the fence, the gates and the cleanup with the foreman before anyone leaves, and you say whether it is right.
Where we work
Your crew works out of your metro, not a truck from another city
A hundred crews run out of seven offices across four Texas metros, and the one nearest your address is the one that shows up. Your crew is never a truck from another city, so your date does not wait on one.

Twenty thousand fences last year, and not one callback
Fence didn’t budge an inch when severe storms came through the next day!
Celeste T.Google review, Houston North office, August 2025 Johnson replaced a metal fence along my back yard. They were responsive to my needs, came in a fair price and delivered as promised. The quality of the materials is excellent and the installation was seamless. i would highly recommend them.
David H.Google review, Houston North office, August 2025 I have had Johnson services first – put in a perimeter fence, then- add a front gate, then add a side gate, then recently a back gate- I have been very pleased with all of their work, their workers, their sales person, and office staff. Thank you very much!!! This is over a 3 year period- still satisfied.

Common questions about a new fiber cement fence
How long does the work take?
Most back yards finish the day the crew starts, because the crew counted and loaded every material before the truck left our yard. A long fence, heavy gates or a stubborn tear-out can take it into a second day, and your salesperson gives you the day count before you sign anything.
Do you haul the old fence away?
Yes, all of it. The old panels, the old posts and the concrete they sat in leave with the crew that day. Removal and haul-off are in the one price, never a line added to your bill afterward.
Do I need a permit for a new fence?
A residential fence in Texas rarely needs one. Your city or your HOA can still cap the height or set which side the finished face goes on. We check both before a post goes in the ground, which is one of the reasons the date holds.
What does the warranty cover?
One year of craftsmanship on every job, and across more than 20,000 jobs last year not one customer needed it. It covers our work: how the posts sit, how the frame hangs, how the gates swing and latch. Materials carry whatever their maker puts on them.
How soon can you start?
About four days after you sign the quote, on a typical job. A hundred crews means one is free when you are. Storm weeks run longer, and your salesperson will tell you plainly when that is happening rather than let you find out.
Can I pay for a fiber cement fence monthly?
Yes. Financing is available through Synchrony, a third party. Ask your salesperson for the terms when your quote comes back. Then build the fence that fits the payment you are comfortable with.
